Techniche '08
Techniche, in its constant endeavour to appreciate intellect, and give budding technocrats a feel of real-time manmade miracles, vouches yet again to be an enthralling experience. And what better ambience to celebrate techno-management than the sprawling campus of IIT, Guwahati - one of the world's leading technical sanctums.
We invite you to three days of Techniche. Three days of unadulterated fun; of exciteful challenges; of incessant adrenaline rushes; of an intensely satisfying learning experience. Look forward to events that demand of you, perpendicular expressions for horizontal ideas, and contests that compel you to delve into the complexities of technology, only for you to emerge with a resounding 'Eureka'.
Techniche 2008: 5th - 7th September. Get inspired
An Air Show by the Indian Air Force, and a video-conference by Dr John Mather, Nobel Laureate (2006), will form a part of the Decade Edition of Techniche’08 - the annual techno-management festival organised by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, over September 5-7, 2008.
IAF’s Air Show will be accompanied by several exhibitions & workshops; most notably, a Vintage Car Rally, an exhibition by the Indian Army, workshops on Management and HAM Radio, and a three-day Robotics workshop by Vigyan Prasar. Also orchestrated, is a night-time fireworks display by Morani Fireworks, past presenters at the IIFA awards.
Techniche, now in its 10th year, will endeavour to bring under one roof, competitions, workshops, a dedicated school-module, lectures, and even a national-level parliamentary debate.
Besides Dr Mather, Prabhu Chawla (Editor, India Today), Dr C Mohan (Chief Scientist, IBM India), Dr HC Verma, Nassiem Haramien (protagonist, the Resonance Project), Michael Danino (noted French archaeologist), and Amitabh Khare (IRCON) will deliver lectures under the Lecture-Series module, which, for the first time, is slated to include live video-conferences. 1 Technothlon, the school-module, 2 has already covered over 10000 students in prelims conducted across 20 centres in the country, including Bombay, Delhi, Kolkata, and Hyderabad. Of these, the top-150 teams will receive an invite to experience Techniche in IIT Guwahati, with specific competitions & workshops designed for them.
With prizes worth INR 5 lakh on offer, the competitive events form the backbone of Techniche. The Robotics segment immediately steals the limelight, with 6 distinct events on offer - covering manual, autonomous, semi-autonomous, underwater, aerial and sailing events.
TechnicheOnline, Techniche’s second website, hosting Ikaru (quizzes), Arbit (puzzles), and an Online Stock Market, was launched in 2007. Instantly a success, it, along with the erstwhile league of international Online Events, such as Byte Code, witnessed 6000 participants within the first year of its launch - effectively taking Techniche beyond barriers of localised space.
Events such as case studies and paper presentations make up the Predefined module - involving meticulous research and development towards fulfilling problem-statements. IDP invites pragmatic solutions to real-life crises faced by the industry today.
BusinessGuru looks to provide a platform for entrepreneurs-to-be to launch a firm, whilst influenced by parameters like location, raw-material, market appeal, labour, logistics, production dynamics, et al.
Requiring no prior preparation, the Rush Hour Module encompasses events for the fleet-footed. Trinity of Neo is the CS Championship. Junkyard Wars, Investment Banking, CSI and Structify form a line-up of events that relate to technology, management, analytic-demeanour and architecture, all-at-once.
Planned for the evenings, is a Quiz Show hosted by Arul Mani, a Panel Discussion, the Gaming Events, an off-shoot of Robotics (yes, one more!) and the Fireworks display, among others. Althemore, interspersed fun-events will keep the participants on their feet at all times.
Through this festival, the students of IIT Guwahati have committed to lend a helping hand to the destitute in an adopted village - in the words of Rahul Anurag, Convener, Techniche’08, “We have been groomed to lead the world; the least we can do is reach out to those that can’t help themselves. It is but a modest attempt to rekindle hope where there is none.”
Techniche provides a forum for the industry, academia and the industry to congregate, and resonate in unison - A decade of celebrating technology & management, celebrating a flourishing scientific temper at IIT Guwahati.
